About Budokai USA Family Karate
Multi-Faceted Art
BUDOKAI USA Family Karate is a traditional karate dojo (martial arts school) on the corner of Route 30 and 80th Avenue in Frankfort, Illinois established in 1989. It is exclusively a martial arts environment where students can focus fully on self-improvement and a quest for personal excellence. With over 75 years of combined teaching experience we have the patience and insight to understand the needs of our students and tailor individual strategies to facilitate their progress.
There are three facets of karate: self-defense, sport and art. They are distinct aspects, yet overlap and are inter-related.
The self-defense techniques of karate - what the martial art is based on - are legendary. The exercises and forms used to practice these skills have been passed down through generations, often from father to son, as a means to protect themselves from bullies and brigands. Today, it is every person’s right to feel confident and secure within themselves, free of intimidation from others.
The sport aspect of karate allows students to utilize the skills they have honed against competitors of similar size, age and skill. Rules and equipment for sparring have been developed to safeguard participants from injury, allowing them to experience the intensity and exhilaration of the adrenal rush associated with competition.
The Art aspect of karate is probably the most renown. It starts with the vigorous repetition of techniques, creating a healthy, well conditioned body. It motivates you to push your limits beyond the comfort zone, developing a keener awareness and control of your body and mind. Questions about your motives and responses will surface, a deeper understanding of which will promote balance and harmony in your life. Ultimately, you seek perfection of self, and that is how karate becomes a “way of life.”
